Ghana defender John Paintsil could follow Steve Komphela to South African giants Kaizer Chiefs.

Amakhosi confirmed Komphela as the substantive replacement for Stuart Baxter on Tuesday, less than 24 hours of the South African's resignation from Maritzburg United.

Out-of-contract John Paintsil has been offered a two-year contract to remain with Maritzburg United.

Komphela had indicated his preparedness to work with the experienced Ghanaian defender during his reign at the club.

Paintsil was revived under Komphela at the Team of Choice and his departure could affect the former Fulham man's decision to remain at the club.

Komphela is a know admirer of the 32-year-old and could hand him yet another stepped-up lifeline at Kaizer Chiefs.

Paintsil will be all too willing to join Amakhosi who remain one of the leading clubs in South Africa and will afford the Ghanaian an opportunity to enhance his wages.
