Everton pondering renewed bid for Man Utd captain Rooney

Wayne Rooney will be the subject of a sensational bid from Everton this summer.

The Daily Mirror is reporting that the Toffees failed in a January move for the Manchester United captain.

Having missed out on the boyhood Goodison Park star in the winter, it is understood that Everton will renew their interest in the 31-year-old at season's end.

Rooney's agent, Paul Stretford, has been in China in recent weeks negotiating a potential move to the Far East but Rooney released a statement yesterday insisting he will stay at Old Trafford.

However, he could be on the way out in the summer and Everton are reviewing whether or not to make a move at the culmination of the campaign.

Asked of Everton's reported interest in Rooney, manager Ronald Koeman was keeping things close to his chest as he prepares his side for the weekend's clash with Sunderland.

“I think it's not the moment now to talk about what will happen, or what we need, or what we like for next season," said the Dutchman.
