Ghana's talented playmaker Christian Atsu will return to action for English side Everton on Wednesday after illness ruled him out of action since last week.

The on-loan Chelsea winger will play for the Toffees in their English Premier League match against Stoke City on Wednesday.

The on-loan Chelsea player missed the 3-1 Europa League win over Swiss side Young Boys on Thursday and yesterday's match at Arsenal because of a severe flu.

Coach Roberto Martinez expects the Ghana international to be back in action on Wednesday when they take on Stoke.

“Christian has got flu symptoms, so he is going to be out of the squad to play Arsenal. I expect him to probably be available for the next game against Stoke,” Martinez said.

Atsu, who is the best player at the recent Africa Cup of Nations, is seeking to seize a starting place at Everton after struggling to get a position before the tournament.

His heroics in Equatorial Guinea has forced Martinez to give him more playing time since returning from Africa's flagship competition.
