Ex-Arsenal captain Frank McLintock: Summer signings not good enough

Published on: 20 February 2017

Former Arsenal captain Frank McLintock has rapped Arsene Wenger's transfer market work.

McLintock is unconvinced by the quality of Wenger's recent signings.

"He's bought four or five players over the last year or so - Shkodran Mustafi, Gabriel Paulista, Granit Xhaka, Calum Chambers - and while they're decent players they're not the sort of players Arsenal should buy if they want to challenge for the European Cup," he said.

"They're good players but I wouldn't put them any higher than that. Wenger did have a marvellous team but this team isn't anywhere near that. They will struggle unless they sign better players."
