Ex-Ghana international Samuel Osei Kuffuor says Anthony Annan's decision to join Dutch side Vitesse Arnhem will safeguard his international career.

The 25-year-old has joined the Eredivisie side on a season's long loan from German outfit Schlake 04.

Annan fell down the pecking order in Ghana's midfield due to the lack of playing time at the Auf Arena.

Kuffuor, who enjoyed a memorable 12-year stint with German powerhouse Bayern Munich, says the ex-Heart of Oak ace has made the right choice.

"I think it's a good move for him so that he can enjoy regular playing time," he said.

''He (Annan) has not started in Ghana's two previous matches and so it was important for him to go to a place where he can be guaranteed first team action.

"With Essien out, we need the likes of him to fill the void and the way to do that is to play week in and week out."

He has made more than 40 caps for Ghana and played at the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations and the Fifa World Cup finals.

Annan's contract with Schalke runs till June 2014.
