Former Berekum Chelsea captain Mohammed Abdul Basit has failed a medical at Bahraini champions Muharraq and has had his contract terminated.

The talented offensive midfielder signed last month and was expected to prolong his stay in the Gulf.

Basit had a successful campaign last season with Kuwaiti side Sulaibikhat.

Muharraq wanted Basit to bolster their ranks for next year's AFC Champions League.

Basit captained Berekum Chelsea to win the Ghana Premier League in 2011 and led them to reach the Group stage of the CAF Champions League the following year.
