Ex-Ghana John Paintsil, has confirmed his retirement from football. 

The 34-year-old made his retirement public on his official Instagram page on social media. 

“John Paintsil the Jeonju Man will like to announce my retirement from being a soccer player.” I thank God for bringing me this far. Was a long journey from 1999 to 2016. 2 world cups and 5 AFCON and 89 CAPS FOR GHANA.”

Paintsil spent 17-years, playing comfortably at the right back position at both club level and for his country.

Paintsil started his professional football career with Berekum Arsenal before joining Liberty Professionals.

He departed the shores of Ghana to play for clubs such as Maccabi Tel Aviv in 2002, where he was a member of the team that won both the Israeli title and reached the Cup semi-final.

He had stints with West Ham United, Fulham United and Leicester City in the English Premier League as well as Santos and Maritzburg in South Africa.
