Former captain of the Black Stars C.K Akonnor has called on the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Ghana Football Association to consider the career life span of footballers in deciding their winning bonuses stating that players have the shortest career life span among all workers.
The former Wolfburg skipper's comments came after the recent winning bonus row that cropped up between the Ministry of Youth and Sports on one side and the Ghana FA and the Black Stars players on the other side.
In his argument, CK Akonnor, explained that the average footballer plays football for not more than fifteen years before retiring while workers like teachers and bankers have up to thirty years before retiring.
The Dreams FC coach therefore wants the Sports Ministry to consider the life of the players after football before arriving at any amount to be given to them.
"My brother every footballer does not play football for more than fifteen years. If he starts playing at the age of eighteen, he will be retiring at the age of thirty-four. So if he has sixty years as his age on earth, what happens to the remaining twenty-five years after retirement? CK questioned.
"They have to consider that in arriving at a decision and also know that the players are also professionals who earn a living from playing football. All these factors must be considered."
