Ex-Chelsea striker tells Arsenal: Don\'t play Ox centrally

Former Chelsea striker Tony Cascarino says Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain shouldn't play centrally for Arsenal.

Arsenal booked their place in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup after a 2-0 win over Sutton last night.

Oxlade-Chamberlain replaced Mohamed Elneny at half-time and gave the Gunners more pace in the middle of the park.

“Alex [Oxlade-Chamberlain] made a big difference when he came on for the second half but I am not at all sure that central midfield should be his long-term position," Cascarino told The Times.

“Yes, there are moments of absolute brilliance and great pace, but there is also an ill discipline about his game.

“He will leave his central-midfield partner to play all over the pitch but, if he is going to master that role, he needs to stay more central.

“Opposing midfielders will just pick off Arsenal too easily if there are gaps.

“Even Frank Lampard at his very best never really ended up in wide positions skipping past full backs."
