Former Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah has confirmed that he is in talks to takeover as the coach of the Sudan national team even though he is unsure of the details of the offer.

Sources close to the Sudanese Football Association (SFA) told GHANAsoccernet.com that Appiah has been approached to take over following the resignation of Mohammed 'Mazda' Abdallah.

Appiah, who is the current coach to top-flight side in the country Al Khartoum, has been hurriedly recalled from his native Ghana to have preliminary talks with the SFA and has confirmed the SFA approach

“I was contacted by the Sudanese FA over the weekend but I referred them to my club,” Appiah said.

“But I have not agreed on anything yet because I’m contracted to Khartoum FC. They must discuss and seal an agreement with my club first.

”I will be happy to coach the Sudan national team but I don’t know if it will be for a permanent or caretaker role. We will see how things go in the coming days,” he added.

The SFA approached Appiah following the resignation of experienced coach Mohammed 'Mazda' Abdallah after eight years in charge of the Nile Crocodiles.

Mazda threw in the towel on Monday just 24 hours Sudan were thoroughly thrashed 4-0 by Gabon in their 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier, throwing the future of the coach in massive doubt.

With Madza opting to set aside Appiah has been approached following his excellent showing as the coach of Al Khartoum.

He is expected to be named as the interim boss by the end of the week while the details of a possible appointment are finalised.

Appiah is in Ghana attending the funeral of former Ghana international George Arthur when officials of the SFA sent messages for him to return to negotiate his possible appointment.
