Ex-Ghana FA boss Major Rtd Lamptey to be buried on Saturday

Former Ghana Football Association boss Major Retired George Lamptey will be buried on Saturday 9 April in Accra.

His burial service will be held at the Ohene Djan Stadium before internment at the Military Cemetery in Osu, Accra.

The honorary member of Caf’s Executive Committee passed away at the 37 Military Hospital in February after being bed-ridden for a month.

Major Lamptey was 82 and served as FA boss from 1975 to 1977.

He was also a life member of the Referees Association of Ghana.

Lamptey was appointed by the Fifa to officiate at the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico and was adjudged one of the best four referees of the football tournament.

Major Lamptey officiated at the 1968, 1972 and 1974 African Cup of Nations held in Ethiopia, Cameroon, and Egypt respectively.

He was also the only African appointed by Fifa to officiate at the June 1972 Mini World Cup held in Brazil.

In June 1973, he officiated at the World Military Cup Tournament.

Major Rtd Lamptey is survived by a wife, eight children, nineteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
