Ex-Ghana FA president, Lepowura M.N.D. Jawula, has given strong backing for Black Stars coach Kwasi Appiah, describing him as the leading coach in Ghana at the moment who needs to be given support to succeed.

He said being the head coach of the Black Stars makes Appiah the nation’s foremost coach at present thus requiring an upgrade of his credentials to enable him to excel in his job in the next two years his new contract is supposed to last.

While endorsing the GFA’s decision to retain the former national captain as head coach of the Stars, he emphasised that the rigours of the Stars job demands that Kwasi Appiah further builds his capacity to enhance the nation’s chances in future assignments.

“As the leading coach I expect the FA to send him for coaching courses to help him upgrade himself because he has now reached a stage where club attachments and certificate courses may not be enough,” Lepowura noted.

He, therefore, suggested to the FA to assist the Stars trainer to embark on foreign programmes to build his capacity and put him in a better position to achieve more laurels with the Stars for the nation.

He, however, had some wise counsel for Kwasi Appiah which he thought was not for public consumption.

“I have some personal advice for him but I will do so when I meet him one-on-one,” he pointed out.

Alhaji Jawula also advised the GFA to select some up-and-coming Ghanaian coaches and empower them as back-up for the Stars and the other national teams.

He mentioned coaches such as Maxwell Konadu, C.K. Akonnor, Mas-ud Didi Dramani, Abukari Damba, and a few others as having the potential to take Ghana Football to places in future.

He said the FA could send these coaches on systematic attachments with top European clubs such as Barcelona, Manchester United, Manchester City, and others in order to upgrade their knowledge in the modern trends of the game.
