Ex-Ghana goalie Ben Owu backs incoming Sports minister Nii Lante Vanderpuye to succeed

Ex-Ghana goalkeeper Ben Owu has backed Minister designate for Youth and Sports, Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye,ahead of his vetting on Monday.

The former broadcaster replaces Dr Mustapha Ahmed, who was sacked following his disastrous reign.

Nii Lamptey Vanderpuye's appointment has been heavily endorsed by major stakeholders due to his vast experience in the game.

And the Medeama goalkeepers' trainer has backed the seasoned journalist to succeed.

"I think he will succeed. He has been part of the game for many years and I believe his appointment is in order," he said

"I have known him for many years and trust me he's a man of substance.

"There is no doubt in my mind that he will make a significant impact in the sports ministry.

"He is the man for the job. For me it's long overdue."

Owu, was part of Ghana's Under-17 team that won gold at the 1991 World Youth Championship.

He was also a silver medal winning goalkeeper for Ghana in Japan 1993 as well as gold medalist at the African Under-17 Championship in Mauritius in 1993.

A real gem, Owu has enough experience to be handed a goalkeepers' trainer role with any of the national teams.
