Ex-Ghana goalkeeper Abubakar Damba claims Stephen Adams is not yet a finished product, insisting he needs to mature before he is considered for a national team call-up ahead of the World Cup.

The Aduana Stars shot-stopper has emerged as one of the brightest spot in the Local Black Stars team at the ongoing CHAN tournament.

The 24-year-old has conceded just a goal after four matches, prompting calls for a potential call-up into the Black Stars ahead of the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil in June this year.

However the former Hearts goalkeepers’ trainer Abubakar Damba says Adams has not matured just yet.

“He needs to learn from the sidelines, before he can be ripped for the main Black Stars team, but I think he is a prospect in the near future, so he needs to be encouraged,” Damba is quoted by Metro FM

“If he is rushed and unfortunately things don’t go on well, we will kill his spirit and that will be the end for him."

With Fatau Dauda still struggling for game time at South African side Orlando Pirates, there are many who believe Adams should be considered as a potential replacement.

Adam Kwarasey, Daniel Agyei, Razak Brimah and veteran Richard Kingson will all be fighting for a place in the Ghana squad.
