Ex-Ghana star Augustine Arhinful says timing is wrong to sack under-fire Avram Grant

Ex-Ghana striker Augustine Arhinful says the timing is wrong to sack embattled coach Avram Grant.

The former Chelsea manager has come under intense criticism after the country's shaky start in the 2018 World Cup qualifiers.

The Black Stars could only a disappointing 0-0 draw at home to Uganda to pile pressure on the team ahead of the remaining five fixtures.

Calls for Grant's dismissal has been incessant with widespread believe he is 'lazy' and has not brought any competition into the team since he took over from Ghanaian Kwesi Appiah.

But former Black Stars attacker Augustines is urging caution insisting the timing is bad.

Former Black Stars striker, Augustine Arhinful is of the view that sacking Avram Grant will be a bad decision.

“I have said that everybody has their own opinion on issues like this but as a former footballer the question we need to ask ourselves is that, looking at the days left for the Egypt clash, will it be a good option to sack Avram Grant? He quizzed on Accra-based Asempa FM

“In as much that there are problems looming in the team, we need to have peace before we play the Egyptians because after playing them in Cairo we have limited time to play in the AFCON. If you ask me, I will say the timing is bad if we should sack Avram Grant.

“We need peace to help the players to play for the country because I believe we can go to Egypt and surprise them.

"I am not those people who think we will not qualify for the world cup but there are a lot of things we need to do to improve the performance of the team and I know people will have different opinion on this but sacking Avram Grant on this stage will be very bad so if we have any decision to take, that decision must come after the AFCON but what Dr. Nyaho said, I will leave it in the hands of Ghanaians.

Grant is under huge pressure to rebound against Egypt in perhaps the biggest match of his reign in a 2018 World Cup qualifier in Alexandria next month.
