Former Ghana and Heart of Midlothian midfielder Laryea Kingston says a cautious rebuke by his ten-year son over his lavish and profligate lifestyle prevented him from going broke.

The former Accra Hearts of Oak player says a put down by his son when he was on the verge of another spending binge which brought him back to his senses.

The talented playmaker made a lot of money while playing for clubs in Libya, Israel, Russia and Scotland which turned his head.

He would embark of nights out with friends while all the expenditure was on him since he was then making good money.

However on his way out to enjoy one night, his son approached him and told him that the lavish lifestyle would lead to disastrous consequences in future which prompted a reverse.

“Sometimes I will go out with my friends, spend all the money on me and go back for more in the house," Kingston said on the Legends Show on GhOne TV.

“I once put money into three ‘Ghana must Go’ bags and started spending them one by one.

"I carried the money in my car and spent two of those bags before my ten year old son told me, Daddy why are spending your money like that?

“I had picked the bag with the money in my car and all of a sudden my son’s statement shook me.

"I put off the engine and came back to the house and slept, then I realise I had just saved 100 million cedi one night.

"I was having hundred million to blow away but my son’s advice saved the money.”

Several Ghanaian footballers have gone bankrupt since ending their career thanks to their profligate lifestyle.
