Ex-Ghana star Nii Odartey Lamptey is backing Avram Grant to end the country’s trophy drought since 1982 at next year’s Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon.

Grant led the team to the final of the last edition of the continent’s flagship competition losing on penalties to Ivory Coast.

With two matches left in the qualifiers, the Black Stars are in pole position to qualify for the tournament as they top Group H with a four-point advantage.

Lamptey believes the former Chelsea manager is on course and can mastermind Nations Cup success.

“Well people might have issues with him now because of what he said after the Mozambique game but he says he was taken out of context,” Lamptey told StarrFM.

“For me if you look at his record since he took over [the Black Stars], he has not fared badly.

“So I expect him to lead us to the Promised Land in Gabon in 2017."
