Ex Ghana internationals C.K Akunnor and Mercy Tagoe-Quarcoe have been appointed spokesperson for the maiden National Player awards.

The duo are part of the seven member Board of Trustees to oversee the annual event meant to acknowledge and honour individuals who have excelled for the various national teams.

Akunnor who captained the Black Stars is now into coaching and is currently working with the Right To Dream Academy in unearthing young football talents in the country.

Tagoe who also played for the national womens team on the other hand rose through the ranks to become one of Ghana's renowned female referees but is also now into coaching.

They are charged with speaking on behalf of the Board of Trustees amongst other elated media activities.

Organizer of the awards scheme Proton Sports Services believe directly involving the former players makes it more representative of what they intend achieving.

“We want the retired players to be part and parcel of this event so their views will be well catered for in the planning of the awards,” Managing Director of Proton Sports Kurt Okraku said.

“We took one male and female so there is gender balance and also because we believe they have the required expertise to take on this task.”

An official launch of the novelty will be held in April to reveal the various categories and incentives of the awards which is expected to take place on June.
