Ex-Ghana youth star Ibrahim Atiku handed Swindon Town trial

Ex-Ghana youth international Ibrahim Atiku has joined English fourth-tier side Swindon Town on pre-season trial in a bid to win a contract at the club, GHANAsoccernet.com can confirm.

Atiku, 28, a childhood friend of Chelsea star Michael Essien, arrived in  Swindon on Tuesday afternoon together with Namibian international Oliver Risser.

The duo will travel to Italy with Swindon Town's for pre-season.

Atiku had trials stints with Manchester United and Inverness Caledonian Thistle as teenager.

The former Liberty Professionals player recently he was with Greek outfit Ethnikos Piraeus

He began with a loan spell in Israel and later moved to Sweden and played for Västerås, Friska Viljor, Assyriska Föreningen, Sylvia (loan) and Vasalund.

Atiku obtained Swedish citizenship in 2005.
