Ex-Ghana goalkeeper Abubakar Damba claims under-fire Richard Kingson is irreplaceable in the interim and says the 33-year-old is being criticized wrongly.

Kingson has come under pressure to retire following series of errors in goal for the Black Stars.

The former Blackpool stopper committed a howler that gifted Congo a consolation goal in Ghana's 3-1 win last Friday in a Nations Cup qualifier.

His displays were highlighted in last Tuesday's 2-1 defeat at South Korea in an international friendly.

There is incessant pressure on him to retire but the Hearts of Oak's goalkeepers' trainer believes Kingson must retain his position as first choice goalkeeper.

''The honest truth is that Kingson is irreplaceable at the moment and that's what we must all understand,'' Damba told Accra-based Happy FM

''We have not been able to groom young players to take over from him steadily and will need some bit of space and time to do so. We just have to be patient because the young ones cannot just be pushed in like that.''

"You do that quickly and they don’t raise the bar, their confidence might be killed and these same soccer fans will begin to attack him unnecessary."
