Ex-Hearts coach Kenichi Yatsuhashi says he prevented the club from selling Super Clash 'hero' Vincent Atinga

Published on: 20 March 2017

Former coach of Hearts of Oak Kenichi Yatsuhashi has disclosed that he halted the club from transfer-listing Vincent Atinga during his tenure with the club.

The towering centre back emerged as the hero for the Phobians in their Sunday’s Super clash game against arch rivals Asante Kotoko when he converted an 83rd minute penalty to win the day for the club to break their seven-year winless run at the Accra Sports Stadium.

In the wake of the match, the club’s former Japanese tactician revealed that he insisted on holding on the player regardless of management’s stance on offloading him.

The Japanese trainer expressed his excitement at Atinga's winning goal saying "In October 2015, one player was about to be released from the list, but I insisted to keep him. Today, he scored a winning goal. Congrats!".

The win elevates the Phobians to 5th position on the log with twelve points after match day eight.
