Former Ghana international Laryea Kingston has lamented on the delay tactics deployed by some clubs in the ongoing Ghana Premier League.
The ex-Hearts midfield dynamo expressed his worry about what he witnessed at the Accra Sports Stadium when his former side played AshantiGold in week 20, where AshantiGold goalkeeper George Owu resorted to time wasting antics when they took an early minute lead.
And according to Kingston, who now trains Division Two side Teshie Unique FC asserted that, should those antics not curbed from the local league as quickly as possible, fans will continue to fancy watching the major European leagues.
Speaking to Kumasi-based Abusua FM, the 36-year-old, “If you take a look at the European football, the game is fast and it flows.”
“Comparing to the Ghana League, players go down on the least contact which slows down the game. This makes fans enjoy watching foreign games at the expense of the local league."
“I can confidently say supporters who go to the stadium only enjoy less than 60 minutes of thrilling action – so the remaining 30 minutes are wasted,” he added.
Laryea also indicated that referees should be very vigilant in monitoring players who engage in such attitude, distracting the flow of the game.
“There are instances referees see minimal contact on players. In such situation, he can instruct the medical team to quickly come for the player since their intention is to delay the game.”
“The referees should critically observed that certain contact are not severe. If such thing is checked, the supporters will enjoy the beauty of the game once again,” he advised.
