Ex-Hearts star Bernard Don Bortey has hit back at local journalists for constantly mocking him over allegation of age falsification.

Some Ghanaian news outlets claimed Bortey, 34, reduced his age to 24 to secure a move to Swedish fourth-tier side Ange IF.

Bortey has constantly been mocked by the local media - a situation which has infuriated the ex-Ghana international.

“This thing has really gone on for some time. I never changed my age. You can ask my Club,” he told Dormaa FM

“I don’t know why some people are bring all this stories. Is very bad, even the Whiteman won’t it easy with you if he finds out that you are using the wrong age, so why would I do such a thing by reducing my age.

“I played at the U17 in 1999. So calculate my age. That is the age I am using.”

The former Ghana Under-17 winger is one of several players who failed to meet expectations following an impressive run at Hearts
