Former chairman of Asante Kotoko Dr. Kofi Sarpong says his decision to accept the nomination to lead the club in 2010 remains his biggest regret.
The chartered accountant left the Kotoko top job in acrimonious fashion two years ago having led the side to back-to-back league titles.
Dr. Sarpong is widely credited for championing several significant reforms at the club including the massive increase in wages of players and infrastructural development.
It was also under his administration that the club secured a partnership agreement with English Premier League club Sunderland to share technical and administrative expertise.
Dr. Sarpong was however heavily criticized for the ‘excessive player sales’ under his regime to primarily raise needed funds to run the club.
He was also widely accused – in some instances called a thief – for the manner in which proceeds from player transfers are used – ultimately leading to his resignation in 2010.
The now football management consultant says his still regrets his decision to become chairman of the side over the manner in which he was treated.
“It is very regrettable. All the work I have done in this world, Kotoko is my biggest regret,†he told Hot FM.
“This is because no one seems to appreciate the work I did there.â€
Former player Samuel Opoku Nti took over management of the club since the departure of Dr. Sarpong.
