EXCLISIVE TRANSFER MARKET / Israel wants Hierro\'s magic tou

Published on: 11 February 2016

Israel wants Fernando Hierro to head up an overhaul of football in the country and rekindle the hopes of a team which has not qualified for a big tournament since the 1970 World Cup. The Spaniard is interested in the offer, but will not make his final decision until another meeting is held.

Hierro would act as the chief adviser to the national commission assembled to improve Israeli football. One of the positive aspects is that the position would allow him to work from Spain. The Israeli FA are keen for the former Real Madrid player to contribute his experience and implement the model which put Spain on the path to World Cup glory.

Hierro would have four main duties: to unify all of the national teams, from the first team down to the youth levels; to provide greater tactical and physical emphasis at all levels; to develop a scouting network to seek out young talent; and, in the medium term, to guide the national team to appearing in a big international tournament.
