Berekum Chelsea earned US$ 15,000 for the live telecast of their CAF Champions League first qualifying round first leg tie against Al Ahly Benghazi at home last Sunday, GHANASoccernet.com can exclusively report.

Their Libyan opponents who wanted their fans back home to watch the match paid the Berekum Chelsea the amount for the live broadcast.

The match was also televised live on Ghanaian private station Metro TV.

“We could have said No to them but I think we want fair play and so we decided to allow them the live coverage and we made some cash,” a Berekum Chelsea official told GHANASoccernet.com.

“If we had allowed that cash to go, we would have lost financially.”

Berekum Chelsea will play the return leg in Tunis instead of Benghazi due to the post civil war violence in Libya’s second largest city.
