Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah will name Isaac Vorsah in his provisional squad for the 2014 World Cup even though the defender has not played competitive football for close to a year, has been told by a reliable source.

The 25-year-old has been battling a serious knee injury he picked up last May while in action for his Austrian club Red Bull Salzburg.

Vorsah is yet to play a competitive match for both club and country since his injury but features very prominently in the thoughts of Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah with the 2014 World Cup barely two months away.

Red Bull Salzburg officials have assured of Vorsah’s fitness when Black Stars assistant coach Maxwell Konadu visited the player earlier this month.

The club claim they are unwilling to risk the Ghana defender to anymore injuries as the reason for not giving him games as expected.

But coach Kwesi Appiah has decided to give his dependable defender a shot at making the final 23-man squad for the World Cup if he is able to prove his fitness in the provisional squad to be named by May 13.

“Isaac Vorsah will be named in the provisional squad for the World Cup but the coach will take a final decision on him at the depth,” a source told

“The coach wants to give him [Vorsah] as much time as possible to prove himself worthy of a place in the final squad.

“So even though he will be named in the provisional squad, his place in the final 23 is not certain.”

Coach Kwesi Appiah however faces a dilemna as he is desperate to avoid any controversies with the call up of players deemed not fit enough to make the squad for the World Cup.

Vorsah has been an integral part of Ghana’s squad since making his debut in 2007.

He however missed the crucial parts of Ghana’s successful qualifying campaign due to the serious knee injury he sustained in May last year.

Do you think coach Kwesi Appiah's intended to call up of Isaac Vorsah is right?

Is the player that vital to Ghana's campaign at the 2014 World Cup considering his uncertain fitness status?

How can a player who has not played football for a year start with the world cup?Ghana has no defenders, right?Let those who played the qualifiers play at the wolrd cup.Keep this guy off the list. In that case you can as well recall john mensah.

Go for taller guys at the back and work on their fitness and mobility.Sumaila still needs to improve on his game, looks jittery at crucial moments.Daniel Adjei is not a world Cup Material.

Just like the old adage: "Fathers know best"; I'll defer to the judgment of the coach. He knows best. I wish Isaac the best. May Lord Almighty continue to bless our beloved Great Ghana: Amen!!!

If he proves to be physically fit then he is a definite. If he is lacking, no need to bring him.

Firstly he has been named or going to be included in the provisional list which presents two scenario here! The first scenario is that, the coaches ll have a better look at him during training to ascertain the level of his fitness and if they are satisfy with that, then they ll include him because a player like vorsah doesn't need thousand matches to perform becasus he is already an experienced player!! One or two friendly matches ll let him regain his fitness and mine u all, HE IS NOT INJURED BUT rather coming out of injury according to his team officials! The second scenario is that, if the coaches are not satisfy with his level of fitness, then he ll be axe and this ll prevent complaints and bitterness!

we need fully fit players at the WC.Lets not repeat our mistakes at ANC....our doctors need to ascertain the recovery of Vorsah before he is included in the squad. We need Vorsah but only when he us fit.

I Thor it was only me who noted that our players are too short, good move AA at least we've one reliable defender to deal with the aerial threat

We are really short of experience and depth in central defence so I can see why the coach wants to give him a chance to prove his fitness I'd say Boye,Akaminko and Jonathan Mensah already have theyre seat on the plane booked no danger so that leaves 1 place up for grabs for I'd say Vorsah or Sumaila.

Who is this journalist? There are other words to politely describe an unfit player than crocked. The way this journalist is using the word is insulting. Please address people with respect especially those make Ghana proud.
