Ghana midfielder Mubarak Wakaso has not returned to his Russian side Rubin Kazan with the key aim of seeking a new club, five days after his proposed move to Saudi Arabian side Al Ittihad collapsed, GHANAsoccernet.com can exclusively reveal.
Wakaso is believed to be in hiding negotiating with potential suitors who are keen on signing him as he was desperate to leave the Russian league which seems to have stalled his progress in the game.
The midfielder was expected to have returned to the Russian club on Wednesday after a big-money move Al-Ittihad collapsed after because two agents claiming to represent the player clashed over the life-changing 2.5m Euros per year deal.
He was expected to have returned to Russia to help his club in their league matches but the Ghanaian opted to stay in Europe to look for a new club, the the General Manager of Rubin Kazan, Ayrat Garayev, told Ghana's leading football news website GHANAsoccernet.com exclusively.
"Wakaso has not returned to Kazan. He is currently not with the club because he wants to stay to look for other options to continue his career," Garayev told GHANAsoccernet.com.
A hugely-influential figure for Ghana with impressive showing in qualifiers and the recent Africa Cup of Nations, Wakaso has been unlucky with clubs sides who have not given him the desired playing time to show his potential.
He believes a move away from Russia will help bring him to the football limelight which is the only lacking thing to his big potential.
Wakaso passed a medical with the Saudi club on Monday awaiting for the deal to be sealed before the fight between new agent Eduardo and long-standing agent Miguel Garcias Hita emerged.
Hita, who has been working with Wakaso for about three years now, was threatening to report the deal to FIFA claiming Eduardo who is brokering the Saudi deal has no right to represent the player.
Al Ittihad fearing that this could lead to possible fines and suspension by FIFA decided not to sign Wakaso who is expected to return to his Russian club Rubin Kazan, says Al Ittihad African representative Mohammed Benyamin.
The 25-year-old passed his medical tests in Milan on Monday by Bupa Arabia after he arrived there on Sunday to join the pre-season camp.
Wakaso spent last season on-loan to Scottish giants, Celtic but failed to impress his coach Ronny Deila as he was so often kept out of his starting eleven.
He was keen on joining compatriot Sulley Muntari at Al Ittihad.
Wakaso has 31 appearances with the Black Stars and scored 9 goals.
He was a key-player in their 2015 Orange AFCON campaign in Equatorial Guinea where they were able to reach the final before losing to Cote d’Ivoire on penalties.
