Ghanaian midfielder Paul Quaye has joined the Spanish second tier side Elche, GHANAsoccernet.com can exclusively reveal.

The 20-year-old sealed the contract with the Segunda club on Monday night from third division side Athletico Malagueno.

Quaye, who is the nephew of Hearts of Oak legend Shamo Quaye, arrives at Elche at the express request of coach Ruben Baraja.

Baraja has signed the Ghanaian to boost his midfield which includes Ilie, Lolo, Pelayo, Nono and Ghanaian player Michael Anaba.

Quaye has been registered with the second team of Elche but will train with the first team of the second tier club.

The Ghanaian is the youngest to have made his debut in the Spanish top-flight for Espanyol when he played in their 5-1 defeat to Rayo Vallecano at the age of 16.

Quaye got tired of waiting for a permanent place in the Espanyol side and left last season to join Atlético Malagueño, a subsidiary of Malaga.

As Espanyol he met with the current Elche sporting director Ramon Planes, who is now returning the trust in the player.
