EXCLUSIVE: Herbert Mensah, Sammy Kuffuor lobby Manhyia to take top Kotoko job

Herbert Mensah and Sammy Kuffuor are in a two-horse race for the soon- to- be-declared vacant Kotoko Chief Executive position, GHANAsoccernet.com can exclusively reveal.

Mensah, a former celebrated chief of the Ghanaian giants is keen to stage a return to the club despite denying severally of eyeing the top seat.

However, Ghana’s leading football website, GHANAsoccernet.com can reveal that both Mr Mensah and ex-Ghana defender Sammy Kuffur have initiated behind the scene talks to be handed the job.

GHANAsoccernet.com sleuth hounding can reveal the two men have sent emissaries to Manhyia to lobby on their behalf in a bid to enhance their chances of landing the top job.

Current Chief Executive Samuel Opoku has bee denying strenuously about his widespread dismissal by life patron and owner Otumfuo Osei Tutu 11 on Tuesday following the side’s poor run in the recently concluded football campaign.

Many Kotoko fans have lost faith in Opoku Nti and have been clamorous in their calls for his sacking since the start of the season.

Even though Manhyia is yet to officially announce the new development at the club, reports of Nti’s dismissal is just refusing to wash away despite the club’s continuous denial.

The club legend has been accused of running ‘school boy’ management which has led to their poor and unflattering campaign on both the domestic front and on the continent.

Kotoko have failed woefully in Africa’s elite inter-club competition, the CAF Champions League in the last three years, failing to make the group phase in a bitter episode which has angered their teeming fans.

Touted as Africa’s club of the century, the Ghanaian giants continue to play catch-ups to the likes of Zamalek, Al Ahly, TP Mazembe, Kaizer Chiefs,Esperance, CS Sfaxien, Raja Casablanca amongst a host of others, to make nonsense of their highly-rated status on the continent.

Kufuor- SongoHerbert Mensah and Sammy Kuffuor are interested in the job and are believed to be making several overtures to be handed the top job.

Mr Mensah who is keen to return out of exile has been largely credited for bringing professionalism into the running of club football in the West African country.

The intelligent football administrator is  fondly remembered by Kotoko faithfuls after presiding over a relatively fruitful period between 2001-2003.

Despite his inability to win any major trophies with the Porcupine Warriors, his expertise, know-how and proficient way of making the club an attractive brand endeared him not only to the club’s supporters but also to the envy of their arch-rivals Hearts of Oak.

Kuffuor, a former iconic Bayern Munch defender, never played for Kotoko but is a die in the wool supporter of the Ghanaian powerhouse and would relish the chance to manage the club which is in bad need of image redemption.
