Powerful defender John Mensah has arrived in Slovakia to complete his move to Nitra FC, boosting his chances of making Ghana's World Cup squad.

The Ghanaian international was in the stands to watch  a training session of his new side at the Štadión pod Zoborom.

The former Black Stars captain has been available on a free transfer since leaving French club Stade Rennes last summer.

With the move now confirmed, as exclusively reported, the stalwart centre-back will be in contention for a place in Ghana’s World Cup squad.

The 31-year-old had his excellent club career hampered by a back injury which required extensive spell on the sidelines.

Mensah played at the last two editions of the World Cup finals in Germany and South Africa.

what do you mean by that? Childish and infantile comment. If Mensah can boost the team chances of winning the world cup in Brazil and retires even ten minutes after that, who cares.Has this man EVER flopped in the Ghana jersey before, tell me? It is about performance;if he meets the coach's criteria for selection - why not.YOU SHOULD STOP MAKING SUCH DISPARAGING REMARKS ABOUT YOUR OWN COUNTRYMAN. IT IS NOT FAIR!HE USED TO BE THE CAPTAIN IF YOU HAVE SHORT MEMORY.

Well said Nana Kwaku, I am glad I have someone who thinks alike. Many Ghanaian have failed to consider his track record. John Mensah is as reliable for the Black Stars than he has been for any club he has played for. At the end of the day his physical readiness will be assessed by the coach not our comments. We have to be moderate in the way we tear up these boys.

Whatever,he should get no where near the Black Star team,we should let sleeping dogs lie, take the youngsters to the world cup they will be more experienced under their belt come 2018,whats the point of taking a player who will retire few days after the world cup????????? Absolute nonsense, this colonial mentality must end,he played his part in the last two world cups.

You do not need to write John off.Tell me among the defender, who is more experience, and formidable then John? What about the technical crew of BS shrtlisting players who are not regular in their club already for the WC? Is that not more crazy?

We will decapitate your head right here.John always excel in the Black Stars, club or without club and he even scores. With his absence look at the loop hole created? With his presence there will be a competition in that department to tighten the defense.John work hard and come help the defense excel in Brazil 2014

Thanks guys 4 ur comments about John. When this guy is fit, he's incomparable 2 any defender in the current black stars. He's even better than Boye and Jona combined. He's just like John Terry
