Exclusive: League's top scorer Nana Poku signs for Egyptian side Ittihad

Ghana Premier League goal king Nana Poku has signed a three-year contract with Egyptian side Al Ittihad Al Sakandary, GHANAsoccernet.com can exclusively reveal.

GHANAsoccernet sources have revealed the Alexandria-based side paid US$ 500,000 for the emerging goal poacher.

The 22-year-old put pen-to-paper at the weekend after passing a medical and has been transferred from champions Berekum Chelsea, a club he joined at the end of last season.

Poku was on the verge of joining Israeli outfit Hapoel Be'er Sheva last week but he made the sudden U-turn to seal the move in Egypt.

The contract was signed in the presence of club president Effat Sadat and Board of directors.

He was unveiled to the club supporters together with compatriot and former Asante Kotoko midfielder Francis Akwaffo.

"Nana is a promising prospect and this club can help him sharpen his scoring boots for future challenges," his local agent Abu Sadik Haruna told GHANAsoccernet.com

"He likes Egypt and this country is good for a player with such talent. Affum and co have come and improved so we hope for the best."

Poku emerged as a surprise winner of the Ghana Premier League golden boot award last season by netting 16 goals for Berekum Arsenals.

Ittihad finished in the relegation zone last season in 14th place but a legislation not to demote clubs due to a month-long pro-democracy protest that hit the country in the course of the season saved them.
