EXCLUSIVE: Milovan Rajevac in the running to be new coach of South Korea, Ghana return shaky
Milovan Rajevac appeared set to stage return to the Black Stars

Ex-Ghana coach Milovan Rajevac, who is on the verge of being named Black Stars technical adviser, has been named as a candidate in the running to be appointed the new coach of South Korea, GHANAsoccernet.com can exclusively reveal.

The Serb’s name has emerged on a shortlist after talks to appoint Dutch coach Bert van Marwijk broke down with the Korea Football Association (KFA).

The new development puts Rajevac’s expected appointment as the new technical adviser for the Black Stars in doubt having been shortlisted alongside Dane Flemming Serritslev.

The KFA are looking for a competent coach with a solid track record in the World Cup following the Taegeuk Warriors’ early exit from this year’s edition staged in Brazil.

They appeared set to appoint Bert van Marwijk but disagreements on the little details of the reported $1.96m a year contract saw the deal go south.

Marwijk had issues with the tax component of the contract as he thought it was just too much. His preference to stay predominantly in Europe and not in South Korea also didn’t go down well with the KFA.

The KFA believe they need a coach who will stay in the country as a source of inspiration for players in the domestic league rather than the over-reliance on players on Europe – Marwijk’s preference.

The Korean Football Association have now turned their sights on other candidates with Milovan Rajevac one of the three coaches being targeted.

The other coaches being considered are Frenchman Raymond Domenech, Fernando Santos who led Greece to the second round of the 2014 World Cup and the incumbent China coach Jose Antonio Camacho.

Santos is however at a massive disadvantage since he is yet to serve out his six-match ban for aggressive protests against the referee when Greece crashed out of the 2014 World Cup at the Round of 16 stage against Costa Rica.

And with Camacho still under contract with China, Rajevac and Domench are left as the real available candidates for the job.

It is now unclear how this job opening with Korea will impact on the Ghana FA’s pursuit of Serbian coach Milovan Rajevac over the appointment of a technical adviser for the Black Stars.
