Ghana coach Avram Grant has handed a late call-up to New York Red Bulls winger Lloyd Sam for Tuesday's international friendly against Canada in Washington DC, GHANAsoccernet.com can exclusively announce.

The 31-year-old former Charlton Athletic and Leeds United player has finally received an invitation from Ghana after almost a decade's interest of representing the country of his parents.

The Leeds-born stand the chance of finally wearing the Ghana jersey for the first time in his career as Grant appears to have experienced shortage in his attacking options.

His call-up is largely on meritorious grounds following his glittering form for Red Bulls in the American top-flight where he has scored 10 times in the MLS and gilded his form with seven assists.

Sam, relative of former AshantiGold SC and Aspire Academy Director Captain Andy Sam, has enormous experience from playing in American top-flight and also played in the English Premier League Charlton Athletic but he failed to catch the attention of the Ghana national team handlers during his days in the EPL.

He becomes the fourth MLS player in the Ghana squad for the Tuesday game following the late call-up handed to New York City FC attacking midfielder Kwadwo Poku.

Poku received his invitation and immediately joined the Ghana continent for training sessions before the final announcement of the squad. Columbus Crew's Harrison Afful and David Accam are already integral part of Grant's team but lost goalkeeper Adam Kwarasey when Portland Timbers requested for the keeper to be excluded from the squad for the game.
