Spanish La Liga side Malaga CF are barmy about signing Dutch-born Ghanaian midfielder Jeffrey Sarpong who is on trials at English Championship side Rotherdam United, GHANAsoccernet.com can exclusively confirm.

Sarpong, 26, is a free agent after leaving relegated Dutch side NAC Breda.

English Championship side Rotherdam United have taken the versatile midfielder on trials with boss Steve Evans stating he wants to further assess him during the Millers pre-season tour in Scotland.

But Malaga have declared their interest in the midfielder and he could abandon his trials at Rotherdam and fly to Spain for medicals.

The La Liga side have been harnessing their interest in Sarpong since he spent a full season as a loanee from Ajax Amsterdam in the 2010/11 season.

Malaga want the Ghanaian in their fold as they are set to lose two of their key midfielders.

Sarpong excelled in the La Liga making a total of 19 La Liga appearances for Sociedad during his stint.
