Ghana striker Emmanuel Clottey has had his contract with UAE top-flight side Al Dhafra cancelled after just six months at the club, GHANAsoccernet.com can exclusively reveal.

The contract termination is the latest setback in the career of the 26-year-old who was farmed out on a season-long loan deal at the beginning of the season by Tunisian club Esperance Sportive de Tunis.

Clottey was hoping to get his club career back on track by convincing Al Dhafrah coach Abdullah Ahmed Mesfer of his quality and eventually land a permanent deal.

The ex Berekum Chelsea striker has however failed in his bid to prove himself in the UAE top flight in his six-month stay where he played 12 games and scored four goals.

Clottey will now have to revert to Esperance who bought him after a highly productive 2012 season in the CAF Champions League where he scored 12 goals for Berekum Chelsea to emerge the competition’s top scorer.

Al Dhafra have already signed Brazilian striker Jose Rogerio Oliveira to replace the Ghana international who has since left the UAE club.

Clottey has had very little luck on his travels abroad having proved himself in the Ghanaian top flight in times past.

His first move abroad to Wacker Innsbruck after winning the top scorer award in the Ghanaian top flight in 2007 while with Accra Great Olympics proved a spectacular failure.

Subsequent moves to Odense Boldklub and Tema Youth were counterproductive until he joined Berekum Chelsea in 2010.

Clottey played for Ghana at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations where he was also one of the players who missed a kicked in the penalty shootout defeat to Burkina Faso in the semi finals.
