Ghanaian midfielder Kojo Poku insists he is now eyeing a call up from Ghana coach Avram Grant after his successful debut season in Major League Soccer.
The 23-year-old, who joined New York City FC from second-tier side Atlanta Silverbacks last June, stole the headlines on Wednesday after he scored two goals when his side shared the spoils 2-2 with Columbus Crew SC, who handed Ghana defender Harrison Afful his debut game at the Columbus Stadium.
Poku latched on to a perfect through pass from David Villa and shot past goalkeeper Steve Clark in the 57th minute to cancel out Kei Kamara's opener before putting New York City ahead in the 67th minute. Congolese midfielder Cedric Mabwati Gerard struck to level the score in the 72nd minute for Columbus Crew.
"I'm ready to play for Ghana because that's my country of birth," Poku told Goal.com
"But what many people should understand is that I'm not a typical striker [like Asamoah Gyan].
"Although I make runs and create chances in opponents' goal area but that doesn't make me an out-and-out striker. I'm ready whenever the call to duty comes."
