The FA approved governance reforms that came into effect in July

The FA has changed eligibility rules to appoint a second female to its board, following governance reforms.

Lawyer Rupinder Bains joins as the third Professional Game (PG) non-executive director after being approved by the Premier League and EFL.

Rules stating a PG member of the board should be a club or league official were waived for the appointment.

Bains, the founder of a media law firm, said she was "very proud and honoured" to take up the role.

The FA has introduced a new governance structure to improve diversity, which includes having three female representatives on the board.

The reforms also state nobody will be allowed to serve more than three terms of three years, and 11 new members will be added to the 120-strong FA Council "to ensure it better reflects the inclusive and diverse nature of English football".
