Leicester City became the first team in English football to score a goal via a decision by the video assistant referee as they overcame Fleetwood 2-0 in their FA Cup replay on Tuesday.
Kelechi Iheanacho opened the scoring two minutes before the break when he latched onto a through ball from Islam Slimani, took a touch and beat Chris Neal.
And he made it two in the 77th minute with the first goal awarded by VAR in UK football. Iheanacho delightfully lofted the ball over Neal but was initially denied by an offside flag. However, referee Jon Moss consulted technology and subsequently awarded the goal about 70 seconds later.
The use of VARs is being trialled in England in the FA Cup and the Carabao Cup this season but not yet in the Premier League.
