Vice Chairman of MTN FA Cup Committee Seth Kofi Poku has lambasted Asante Kotoko coach, Steve Polack's assertion that the penalty awarded to his team in their 2-1 victory over Nea Salamina in the rescheduled MTN FA Cup quarter finals was dubious.

Asante Kotoko went ahead in the 13th minute through striker Saddick Adams before Obeng Junior restored parity in the 35th minute.

And just as the game looked to be heading to penalties, referee Nuhu Liman awarded a contentious penalty to the Porcupine Warriors in injury time, which was expertly dispatched by captain Amos Frimpong.

During Polack's post-match interview, expressed his embarrassment at the call by the Wa-based referee and claimed the win was not on fair grounds.

However, Kofi Poku has hit back at Polack, saying that the English gaffer made those comments out of bitterness following his team's poor display.

"Polack was upset with his team’s display on the day because he thought they could have beaten them easily but I can tell you but I don’t see how they could have beaten them," Kofi Poku told Happy Fm's Anopa Bosuo Sports.

“For him to come out to make those comments that he wanted to win the match fairly was unfortunate. Something happened during the game but it was at the blind side of everyone and he felt bad from there on.”

“I was sitting beside the match commissioner at the stadium and I witnessed the gestures he made, he was pissed but had the referee had the confidence to sack him off the field, I don’t think all this thing would have happened. As a coach, your job is to coach the team but not throw to tantrums at every call by the referee.”

“You should have seen what happened after the match when we were walking down to the dressing room, it was unpleasant and I think it was because of that he made those comments.”

By virtue of the win, Kotoko will play Wa All Stars in the semifinals of the competition.
