A massive confusion is brewing in the Antwi family after the mother of Ghana’s Under-20 goalkeeper Eric Ofori Antwi claimed her son will defy the orders of his ‘drunk’ dad to play for Accra-based giants Hearts of Oak.

In a shocking public attack on the father of the goalkeeper, Grace Asantewaa described her ex-husband as a 'drunkard' and an 'irresponsible father who never took care of his children' after Franklin Ofori said he will force his son to play for giants Kumasi Asante Kotoko instead of arch rivals Hearts of Oak.

Franklin Ofori, father of the Black Satellites shot stopper who is Ghana's first choice keeper at the ongoing U20 World Cup in Turkey, revealed earlier this week that he will prevent his son from playing for Hearts because he feared he will court ‘bad luck’ when he makes the switch to the capital. The controversial father claimed in the most shocking fashion that players who hail from the Bono Ahafo Region court back luck when they play for the Accra-based giants.

Hearts fans have been angered by what many have described as ‘irresponsible’ comment which has forced the player’s mother to disassociate her son from the brewing controversy with a scathing attack.

“I am shocked to hear this from the father. It’s never true that my son wants to play for Kotoko and I will also not allow that to happen,” Grace Asantewaa told Happy FM.

“I am a Hearts fan and I know my son wants to play for Hearts.

“My ex-husband is a drunkard and so I will plead with anyone hurt by the comment to disregard him.

“He is not a serious man. I have tried to reach him on phone but I can’t get through to him.

“He is an irresponsible man who never took care of his children. I have toiled to take care of my children without his help.

“My son has always informed me he will like to play for Hearts. And like I said I’m a Hearts fan and so naturally I will like to see him play there."

The mother’s outburst is likely to deepen the controversy that has already dominated the major talking points in the West African country.

Antwi has emerged as one of the finest goalkeepers at the ongoing FIFA Under-20 World Cup in Turkey with off the roof performances that has got him many admirers.

GHANAsoccernet.com sources can reveal that the youngster has attracted lots of interest from some stellar clubs abroad.
