Fatau, Clottey start against Egypt - Asamoah at left-back

Published on: 10 January 2013

Fatau Dauda and Emmanuel Clottey have been handed surprise starting roles in Ghana’s friendly match against Egypt on Thursday.

The game will be the first warm up game for the Black Stars ahead of the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa.

Goalkeeper Fatau Duada has been favoured ahead of regular no.1 Adam Kwarasey while Clottey will lead the Ghana attack in place of first choice striker Asamoah Gyan.

Kwadwo Asamoah will be played on the left-side of defence – making do of coach Akwasi Appiah’s promise to try the Juventus midfielder as an option at left-back.

Jerry Akaminko will partner John Boye in central defence with Harrision Afful manning his more familiar right-back position.

Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu and Mubarak Wakaso will partner as anchors in central midfield with Rabiu Mohammed and Albert Adomah playing on the wings.

The game being played in Abu Dhabi will kick off at 9pm local time, 17:00 GMT.

The Black Stars will after this match engage Tunisia in another warm up game three days later.

A coach first has to have a plan or strategy and see whether he has the players to fit optimally into his tactics and strategy to achieve the maximal result! Now AA and the technical team have a plan or strategy , that was why they chose the players for this AFCON. Now they have to try out these strategies in these trials or friendlies, hence the trying of the various players at those positions! As a coach you need such friendlies ( of a little bit competitive nature) to test the effectiveness of the strategies. The team does not necessarily have to win these tests(howevers wins are aimed at). Most important is to have a very good idea of the effectiveness of the strategies or tactics! Don't forget he planned with Ayew, but this did not come on so he has to get things done in a different way.Its after these trials that these players would be given their real positions in the real matches. For now please leave the Coach and the technical team to peacefully prepare for the tournament: CONNSTRUCTIVE CRITICISMS OKAY, INSULTS AND UNNECESSARY AND ACRIMONIUS DEBATES A BIG NO!

This kwasia coach is a disgraced and a joker too!!! The first work of a fullbacks is to spot opponents and block their crosses period!!! The problematic left back can only be manned well by a defensive minded player and i know one of our central players can do better job than k asa!!! A central midfielder like asa will be disastrous!!! This coach is fucking shitting in his baggy sweat pants!! Viva the revolutionciooooooooooll!!!(

Bet me, those due to one reason or the other axed from the team can form a squad and beat the current squad : 1.Ernest Sowah 2)Samuel Inkoom 3)David Addy 4}Rashid Sumaila 5)John Mensah 6)Michael Essien 7)Andre Ayew 8)Kelvin Prince Boateng 9)Jordan Ayew 10)Abdul Warris 11)Sulley Muntari GHANA, we should treat our players well so that they make themselves available when they are needed.

Kwadwo A will be played on the left side of the defence doesn't mean he is a defender , but it can also mean # 11 position but is clear that the coach is playing counter attack , people either u grow up or go back to school

These Coaches have to understand one thing;they should not copy blindly. The fact that Asamoah is often given added defensive responsibilities on the left of defence in his Club does not mean that Ghana should use him for the same role for the the Black Stars. Juventus have a set of players that afford them the Luxury of using Asamoah for that Role. To them ,it is a rare luxury having a player in the caliber of Asamoah operate the left wing with the added defensive duties the way Asamoah does. Many top clubs in Europe cannot afford that and so is Ghana. He's our main playmaker(more experience than Atsu)in the team and must be use asuch. I can only hope these Coaches knows what they are doing.

I support the idea of Playing KASA at left back. He is good at overlapping and he has excellent crossing, He is strong in defence and fast. However He has POOR shot on goal. So looking at these qualities combined, playing him at leftback fits him well. Lets wait and see.

@Chu: Dede has nothing to do with it. He is somewhere trying to persuade himself to believe that he was axed from the Ghana team. All I know is: Dede would surely be praying for Ghana to excel. I spoke with Dede this morning U S eastern time and he was very sad that he is not with the team but all the same, he is in good spirit toward his recovery. He wished the Black Stars well.

Junior Mafia, trying players at whatever position shows the team is not ready. Conte has the right materials with which kwadwo suits a shadow attacker in defence with Chelini providing cover anytime they ate to defend. And in case you don't know tanko, dede would never wish to be absent in a Ghana trophy triumph. From what I read, you all just don't know what really went on.
  • Union Leader says:

What a mess!Kwadwo Asamoah don't play at left back at Juventus even though he's occassionly given extra defensive responsibilities at left back. His role at Juve is a marauding left sided midfielder who have the added responsibility to fall back and defend. There's a difference. Asamoah and Atsu are the genuine playmakers in the team it is wrong for the Coaches to use Asamoah as a Left back. If you ask me Asamoah needs to play a central role in the middle of the park to create for the strikers. All the same ,no cause for alarm. This is just an exhibition game ,but the earlier they develope a sustem of play suited to the current squad the better for all of us going into this huge tournament.

I do not know what is the minds and hearts of some people. When this Ayew family play, they play their hearts out but yet still people would curse at them and when they go wrong, it is the same. I have an idea why it is like that with this particular family. Do we understand the concept of: NO ONE EVER KICK A DEAD DOG? YES, NO ONE KICKS A DEAD DOG. The Ayew family is well awake and ALIVE! That is why some people in Ghana treat them badly regardless of what they did and did not do. I have an idea here also: THE AYEWS ARE STARS AND ARE BETTER THAN MOST OF THE PEOPLE THAT TREAT THEM BADLY. THE AYEW FAMILY IS ONE OF THE BEST IN THE COUNTRY. TAKE IT OR LEAVE IT
