FC Barcelona win their fourth consecutive Copa del Rey

FC Barcelona won a record-extending 30th Copa del Rey trophy and their fourth in a row when they defeated Sevilla FC 5-0 at the Wanda Metropolitano on Saturday.

The Azulgranas took an early lead when a long ball out from goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen found Philippe Coutinho, who crossed for Luis Suarez to net from close range after only 11 minutes. Leo Messi became only the second player to score in a fifth Copa del Rey final just after the half hour mark, rifling into the roof of the net from a neat Jordi Alba backheel. Luis Suarez struck his second just before half-time, Racing away on to Messi’s through ball to score Barça’s third.

Hopes of a Sevilla fightback were dashed early in the second period, when Andres Iniesta and Messi combined, and the Barça Captain danced around the keeper to strike the fourth. Coutinho fired in the fifth from the penalty spot. Despite having to watch their team suffer a heavy defeat, the Sevilla fans continued to cheer on their side contributing greatly to the football spectacle in the Spanish capital.
