Nitra coach has explained John Mensah decision

FC Nitra coach Ladislav Hudec has explained his decision to replace former Ghana captain John Mensah in their 2-1 home defeat to Slovan Bratislava in the Slovakian Super Liga on Monday.

The 31-year-old former Black Stars captain was replaced just before the start of the second-half at the Štadión pod Zoborom when Nitra slipped to a painful home loss.

Hudec explains he replaced the former Sunderland defender due to tiredness and lack of competition playing time for close to 12 months.

“Mensah was tired in the first-half and was obviously tired so we had to rotate and change him. However, when he is 100% fit, we will have a lot from him as he is a promising talent,” he said after the game.

Mensah had not seen competitive action since leaving French side Stade Rennes last May.

That’s what we have saying all along!! A fit again john mensah is the solution to our backline! Pair vorsah and john boye and the backline becomes shaky and leak goals! Pair john boye and akaminko and they play without confidence! Pair vorsah, boye, akaminko against john mensah and they play with confidence because the mere presence of john mensah ginger these guys to play well!! If he can regain his form in his new club, we seriously need this guy in Brazil!! Finally, anytime john mensah is replaced in most of our matches, we go on to concede goals!!

  2. mukmin says:

And people have been clamoring to have him included in the black star, such people lack pragmatism. We are not going to worldcup to play a league which allows you seven days to recover after match assuming you don’t have to play midweek. Mensah’s fitness is an issue that will impact the coach’s tactics. Usually the coach’s substitutions should be reserved for midfielders, forwards or defenders( if there is an injury ) a defender who cannot play 120 minutes should not be taken to the worldcup. Quality and experience can’t makeup for fitness you either have it or you don’t.

  3. Keleele says:

Selfmade, I agree with you on this. He has from now to May to improve his fitness. We are all praying for him so he comes through unscathed. He is a sure bet for the World Cup.

  4. Adebayo says:

One would have thought that GSN will apologize for previously reporting that Mensah completed the match!

  5. selfmade says:

@ mukmin… Mate, I disagreed with u!! The reverse is the case!! A long league campaign can have an adverse effect on a player fitness but not a month long tournament!! The only thing that can hinder john mensah progress at the WC is not his fitness but INJURIES!! By the way some of our so called fit were are taking to the WC are not fit too!!

  6. selfmade says:

@ keleele… Thank u dude! U said it rightly! He has from now till June to regain his fitness and not to be HEAL FROM HIS INJURIES! People confused the two! John mensah cldnt finished most of our matches because he was injury-proned but now he has no injuries but lack match fitness and two or three matches ll let him regain his fitness and sharpness again!! The EXPERIENCE this guy ll bring to out team at the WC ll be awesome! We all should remember this guy is a veteran of two worldcups!!

  7. boahen, hamburg says:

Seriously, we need john mensah back to control our defends for us.I thank God he has started playing n in no time he will be fit for the world cup

  8. mukmin says:

@ selfmade John Mensah is a beast and a genius arguably the best Ghanaian defender ever in terms of quality and leadership at the back. I don’t doubt his quality and ability to inspire confidence in his teammates but the truth of the matter is Mensah’s fitness has taken a nose dive since 2012 due to persistent injuries. It is hard to maintain fitness if you are always getting injured. Football is not a game that you can easily catch up if you miss a significant amount of playing time. Even players to are out for acl injuries which usually takes 6-8 months to recover from take time to hit form. Take someone like Ramsey who started with a bang but persistent injuries have hampered his form but it took him playing consistently and regularly to get to his early season form which unfortunately has been hampered again by injury. I would gladly take a fit Mensah but I don’t think he’s fit enough to merit a place on the blackstars.

  9. selfmade says:

@ mukmin… That’s why we are saying he ll have enough time to regain his fitness thru playing regularly at his club!! Again as I said earlier, John mensah couldn’t compete enough for the past yes not because of fitness problems but rather DUE TO CHRONIC INJURIES!! A player can be very fit but persistent injuries can hamper him in a game and a player can have no INJURIES BUT NOT FIT!! A very typical example of players looking fit without any injuries but cannot pull as we called it in football parlance is the Ghanaian squad we took to south Africa in the African cup of nations where AA said that about 90% of the players were not fully fit and he realized that only during the tournament! John mensah has never had issues with fitness but rather CHRONIC INJURIES and even when he was persistently injuring himself in most of our matches, HE LOOK FIT, STRONG AND SHARP in all of our matches!! If u quite remember, prior to afcon 2012, a lot of Ghanaian fans wrote him off with the same criticism of not be active but he emerged as the TOP GOAL SCORER FOR the bs in gabon-eq guinea scoring against Botswana in the group stage and against Tunisia in the quarter finals!! A fit again john mensah doesn’t have to learn anything new!!

  10. SHITOPEPPER says:

This Dude is too old we don’t need him. he has no stamina. does the coach want to tell us he does not train for full match fitness. He cant play full 90 minutes now period.

  11. Papadinho says:

Oluman can’t run with the young dudes. Time to move on thug. Just retire please

  12. selfmade says:

This match was his first match!! Two or three matches ll be OK for him to regain his fitness!!

  13. Nanagee says:

We don’t need him at the world cup
