The current position taken by one of my most admired players in the Ghanaian league Asiedu Attobrah, with regards to discontinuing his playing career with New Edubiase, has really tickled me and I can't hold on anymore.
I need to comment because I admire the player not because he plays for my club but because he had a promising future.
Having played for the club since division one into the premier league, I think Attobrah has taken more from the club than he has given, hence his decision to discontinue his stay with the Yenko Nkoaa boys shall be regretted if not rescinded.
I believe, as part of the criteria for selecting players into any of the national teams, any player must first belong to a team. Yes, one must be affiliated to a club before he can be called a player. For this basic reason, Attobrah owes New Edubiase a lot.
If for nothing at all, my good friend and brother should have looked at his world cup appearance at the U20 level as a yardstick to reconsider his decision. Arrogance is never an attribute of a future star. Attobrah must come again.
But come to think of it, maybe the management of my darling club could have also done something to curb the situation to convince the boy to stay. Our clubs must check that. Waiting for players' contracts to expire before renegotiating is something our clubs must desist from.
Why must we wait for contracts to end before talking about them again. Don Mahatma Otoo and Accra Hearts of Oak, Yaya Mohammed and Asante Kotoko, Daniel Darkwah and Aduana Stars (with just a month left on his contract), and the list goes on.
But must Attobrah get angry? Who will his anger affect?  Does he need Edubiase to get a better contract or Yenko Nkoaa needs him now? In any case, is it true that he was the highly paid player in the club?
What did Joe Abu Salam take him to Cote D'Ivoire for? Am told they went for a travelling visa. Well, did Salam go there because of himself or for the player? Asiedu, think twice.
If Attobrah wants to know why he needs the club more than the club needing him, he should ask himself the number of matches he has played this season. Yes, how many matches has he played and what were their impact on the team's position now?
He played against Inter Allies which ended 2-0 in favour of Allies and against Kotoko which ended 2-2. So in effect, if the games should even be attributed to Attobrah's influence, he has only been able to get just a point for Yenko Nkoaa. Asiedu must wise up.
My advice to Attobrah is that he should go back to the leadership of the team, Alex Ackumey, Abdul Salam Yakubu and Joe Abu Salam and apologise for staying away from the club after the returning from the U20 world cup and take back his orange shirt for his own future. Asiedu must never forget that no club will sign a clubless player.
