Probably it has to take a super extraordinary experts of labour to expound for the general public to understand what the captain of the Ghana senior national football team and his colleagues are saying so to be on the same wave length with their argument.

Worldwide, playing for  national football teams is seen as honor but Asamoah Gyan and his friends at the Black Stars thinks playing for a national team is a job, therefore they must duly be paid for every service they render the state.

Is not first time a player of black stars pathing this line. In pasts the’ve been several Black Stars players who have said same. Some even gone to the extent of telling a minister of sports to cut the hell of a long talk short and pay their bonuses or the minister invites his children to go play for the national team if is easy.

A recent related development is the reason for this piece. Asamoah Gyan, the leader of the Black Stars prior to starting the Russia 2018 Worldcup qualifiers with a minnow Comoros has said he feels upset with an attempts by the sports ministry to slash their winning bonuses to $5000.

According to him they are not slaves, it should be pay as we play or work and pay. Most unfortunate comment ever in 2015 even though the year is yet to be over.

In his recent interview with Accra based Muntie FM, this is what the captain said. “To tell you the truth I am quite upset with this. I think it is an issue against personalities”

“We as footballers should also be considered as workers and after a hard day’s work, one need to get paid.

“I don’t think when I hang up my boots and I fall sick I will go into the offices of a Minister and say because I played for the national team he should give me money to take care of my medical expenses.

“We are not slaves so such things cannot be enforced in the manner in which I hear it is being enforced.” Said Asamoah.

Yes, this is not a fiction or a dream. That was the response of the Ghana captain when he was asked about the ministry’s attempt to slash their bonus. Money driven captain? Pity.

The ministry did not scrap winning bonus but as a fact only attempted to decrease the bonuses due to understanding glaring reason of a fact that there is a huge pressure on the state purse.

But unfortunately our captain responded as if their bonuses were going to be scraped forever. Drawing our minds back to some few years ago, in 2008 during the African cup of nations tournament in Ghana Gyan vowed to retire from playing for the national team following a poor showing of his performance but it took the intervention of then president Agyekum Kuffour who did physic him to pull back the decision.

Today the rest of the Gyan story is now history, a rich history which everyone can attest to his concomitant with the national team how it has helped shaped his football career.

No doubt Gyan has done good for Ghana but what Ghana have done for Asamoah as football player  can’t be quantified and few is the reason why he’s the highest paid African footballer now.

The simple logic of the reality however says had Gyan embarked on that his premature retirement in 2008 his life would by now be just like his senior brother Baffour Gyan.

Between the two is evident that what Asamoah Gyan has done for Ghana is only 1% of what Ghana have done for the young man. It is just sad to hear him with all the gust now telling Ghanaians right in the face that he’s on a business mission with our national team. We would forgive him as a beloved son and the captain of our National team.

I appeal to the people close to him who may see this piece that they  can really do him good-by counseling him on certain utterances he makes, or if Asamoah you by anyway chance on this piece i advice you measure whatever you want to say before you speak. You are the Captain of the Ghana national football team please.

Baby jet as he prefers to be called became the substantive captain of Ghana Black Stars in 2013. This was after the captaincy band was handed to him by John Mensah after the reign the former Skipper Stephen Appiah.
