FEATURE: Why New Edubiase can’t avoid relegation
New Edubiase United

New Edubiase are rocked to the bottom of the Ghana Premeir League with 26 points, barely six games to end the campaign

Bechem United, who are just lying above the drop zone are 7 points better than New Edubiase United, with 18 remaining points to fight for.

It seems all things are working against New Edubiase in their bid to avoid relegation. They started the season poorly and have since not rediscovered their form. New Edubiase United picked a slot to compete in the Ghana Premier League in the 2010-11 season and have since been a force to reckon with in the top flight league.

They finished 8th position in their debut season at a time they were using the Obuasi Len Clay Sports Stadium, their adopted home grounds and bettered their place on the league log the second season when they finished 5th, as they relocated to their original home base New Edubiase. United replicated their fabulous form in the league in the FA Cup competition by edging Ashanti Gold to emerge champions. They represented Ghana in the CAF Confederation Cup in 2013 but bowed out on penalties against a side from Congo Brazzaville.

New Edubiase United slipped to 9th position in the 2012-13 season and moved downwards a season after to 10th place and avoided relegation last season at the latter part, but finished 8th position because the points gap between the clubs were very close, even some clubs that got relegated amassed 40 points.

The relegation threat which was knocking at their door last season is now getting out of control and it seems only a miracle can save them from earning a place in the wilderness of Ghana football, which is division one.

New Edubiase United after a poor start to the 2015-16 season at the len Clay Sports Stadium started preparations to relocate back to their original home grounds, but it got delayed until match day 24 when the club Licensing Board approved New Edubiase for Premier League games again.

Although New Edubiase were lying at the bottom of the league ladder the President of the club, Abdul Salam Yakubu was optimistic his side are going to avoid relegation with ease.

However, after they failed to get a win against West African Football Academy (WAFA) his level of confidence has come down, saying the supporters of the club should be ready to accept anything that might come out of this season’s league. It shows clearly that he has thrown in the towel because all hopes are gone.

Another unfortunate situation New Edubiase United find themselves in at the moment is that they have games against clubs who are either battling relegation or are in the race for the league title.

New Edubiase’s next assignment is a trip to Techiman City, who are also not in a safe position before they host league leaders Wa All Stars on match day 26. New Edubiase will travel to Inter Allies who a are also in the drop zone, before hosting Bechem United, who are just lying above the relegation zone.

The 2012 FA Cup champions will take on inform, Ebusua Dwarfs in the penultimate fixture and wrap up on the season with a home game against title contenders, Hearts of Oak.
