Prempeh College began their Group A campaign with a 2-0 victory over Northern Region, a result which sent them immediately to the top of the table with three points.

Greater Accra also claimed three points after beating Central Region 1-0. They are second, level on points with the group leaders but behind on goal difference.

Volta Region are third with two points following a dramatic 5-3 penalty shootout win over Upper East Region. The match ended 2-2 in regulation time, leaving Upper East with one point.

Central Region and Northern Region are yet to earn a point after the opening round of fixtures.

Western Region lead Group B on goal difference after recording the largest win of the first matchday. They defeated Eastern Region 4-0 to move to the top of the standings.

Elite Academy BIG Boss also made an impressive start, beating defending champions Ashanti Region 4-1 in their opening match. BIG Boss have three points, but sit second behind Western Region on goal difference.

Brong Ahafo occupy third place after a 2-0 victory over Upper West Region, which also gave them three points.

Defending champions Ashanti Region endured a difficult start to their title defence, losing 4-1 to GFA Elite Academy side BIG Boss in their Group A opener.

Ashanti were unable to contain an energetic BIG Boss team, who delivered an impressive performance at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence and made an early statement in the tournament.

Brong Ahafo also opened their campaign with victory, beating Upper West Region 2-0.

Nana Kofi Babil scored the only goal in the 68th minute to preserve Medeamas unbeaten start at Debibi. The defending champions have collected 11 points from a possible 15, with three wins and two draws under head coach Ibrahim Tanko.

Medeama lead the table on goal difference, but FC Samartex matched their points tally after beating Young Apostles 1-0 at Nsenkyire Park.

Christian Agyenim Boateng converted a first-half penalty to give the Timber Giants victory after they controlled much of the opening period. Young Apostles improved after the interval, with Abdul Mobarick causing problems from deliveries and John Afram testing the hosts with a powerful effort.

Samartexs defence held firm to maintain their unbeaten record and keep them level with Medeama on 11 points.

Heart of Lions claimed their first home win of the campaign by overcoming FC AshantiGold 3-2 at the Kpando Sports Stadium.

William Oduro put Lions ahead in the 19th minute, but Raphael Kwame Junior Ankamah quickly brought AshantiGold level. Francis Odoom restored the home sides advantage from the penalty spot before Oduro scored again in the 36th minute to make it 3-1.

Heart of Lions were reduced to 10 men shortly afterwards when Emmanuel Arthur was dismissed. Ankamah scored his second goal in the 72nd minute, but Lions resisted late pressure to take all three points.

Port City produced one of the rounds standout results, defeating Bechem United 3-1 at the Daasebre Boamah Darko II Park.

Captain Hamza Zakari opened the scoring with a powerful header in the 18th minute, and Owusu Ansah added a second eight minutes later. Bechem United reduced the deficit after half-time, but Owusu Ansah struck again in the 54th minute to complete his brace.

The victory lifted the debutants back to third place on 10 points, while Bechem United fell to 10th.

Basake Holy Stars responded to last weekends heavy defeat by Medeama with a 1-0 win over Berekum Chelsea at the AAK II Sports Arena in Ampain. Francis Asante scored the decisive goal, his sixth in the league this season.

Holy Stars have now won all three of their home matches at the AAK II Sports Arena without conceding.

Aduana FC completed the days comeback victories with a 2-1 win against Swedru All Blacks at the Nana Agyemang Badu I Park. William Danquah scored after four minutes, but Stephen Amankona equalised in the 36th minute and converted an 85th-minute penalty to complete his brace.

The result gave Aduana back-to-back wins and moved them fourth on 10 points. All Blacks remain 13th with five points.

The defending champions face BIG Boss in the opening Group A fixture, as the competition gets under way with 12 teams playing six matches at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram.

Ashanti Region and BIG Boss will kick off the tournament at 08:00 on the FIFA Pitch. At the same time, Brong Ahafo will play Upper West Region on the betPawa Pitch.

The opening day's second round of fixtures begins at 10:00. Upper East Region meet Volta Region on the FIFA Pitch, while Western Region take on Eastern Region on the betPawa Pitch.

There are two further matches in the afternoon. Elite Academy Prempeh College play Northern Region at 14:00 on the FIFA Pitch, before Central Region face Greater Accra in the final match of Sunday's schedule.

The result leaves Hearts of Oak fourth in the table on eight points, but the Phobians have now gone three league matches without scoring. Dreams FC remain bottom with two points from five games and are still without a victory this season.

Despite the lack of goals, the contest at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium was an entertaining and closely fought encounter, with both teams creating chances.

Dreams came closest in the first half when Mohammed Shaban delivered a well-weighted pass into the path of Razak. The forward was unable to make the decisive connection, allowing Hearts of Oak to escape after the hosts had missed a significant opportunity.

Hearts also threatened before the interval, but Dreams goalkeeper Rahman Osman made an important save to keep the scores level.

Neither side managed to produce the finishing touch after the break. With no breakthrough at either end, the points were shared.

Vision FC were also unable to take advantage of home support as they drew 0-0 with Gold Stars SC at the Nii Adjei Kraku II Sports Complex.

The Tema-based side had been looking to build on their encouraging 1-1 away draw against Berekum Chelsea, but they could not find a way through a resolute Gold Stars defence.

The point provides some relief for Vision after their disappointing 2-0 home defeat by newly promoted Port City FC last weekend.

Vision remain ninth in the standings, while Gold Stars stay in the relegation zone after another difficult result.

The initiative is being delivered under the Football for Good programme and aims to spread information within the football community and across Ghana. It is part of the GFA Foundations wider work to support projects that improve the lives and livelihoods of football stakeholders and communities, while using football to encourage behavioural and social change.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) campaign is using the theme Every Story is Unique, Every Journey Matters. for the second consecutive year.

The message reflects the different experiences of people affected by breast cancer. Each diagnosis involves an individual, a family and a personal journey, with challenges shaped by factors including the type of diagnosis, treatment, support available and access to healthcare.

Beyond using football to spread the message, we will seek to connect awareness with action by working with health partners to provide education, screening and physical examination and related services at our offices and selected football events, Malcolm Frazier Appeadu, Director of GFA Foundation, said.

During October, the GFA will publish information about breast cancer prevention, risk factors, detection and symptoms. It will also work with partner organisations to offer free screening to the public, with particular emphasis on people involved in football and sport.

A photo campaign using a breast cancer selfie frame will be staged at domestic league matches and other competitions during the month.

Breast cancer remains the most common cancer among women worldwide. In 2024, 2.4 million women were diagnosed with the disease and 694,000 died from it.

By the end of 2024, 8.2 million women were living with breast cancer globally, according to the WHO.

The disease accounts for one in eight cancer cases among both sexes and one in four cancer cases among women. Some 70% of deaths occur in resource-constrained settings.

Limited health-system capacity, low levels of awareness and insufficient access to early detection services can lead to diagnoses at a later stage and poorer outcomes.

In many of those settings, breast cancer also affects younger women disproportionately. That contributes to premature deaths and an increasing number of children losing their mothers.

The GFA Foundations campaign will therefore combine awareness activities with education, screening and physical examination services delivered in partnership with health organisations.
