FIFA investigating DR Congo AFCON player for having four birthdays

FIFA is investigating a DR Congo player, who played at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations, for having four different birthdays.

The investigation comes after it emerged Chancel Mbemba Mangulu was registered by his first two Congolese clubs with a 1988 birthday.

He also had a listed birthday of Nov. 30, 1991, for a Cup of Nations qualifier in June 2011.

His birth date was later recorded by his Belgian club, Anderlecht, as Aug. 8, 1994.

Mangulu has said he believes he was born in 1990.

"We are currently analyzing all the documents at our disposal and investigations against the relevant entities are on-going," FIFA said Thursday in a statement to CNN.

"In view of this, we cannot comment any further."

The revelation has left Mangulu's career in a balance as he could be banned from playing football if he is found guilty of age-cheating.

He was part of the DR Congo squad that played alongside Ghana in Group B  of the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa.

DR Congo could not advance beyond the group stage.
