FIFA President Blatter has written to Kwesi Nyantakyi, the President of the Ghana FA, to express his ‘sadness and distress’ upon hearing the death of referee Kyei Andoh who was apparently attacked by fans during a match last weekend.
According to reports, the assistant referee suffered severe injuries after he was beaten up during a match between Gold Stars and Naa Joe United in Bordie.
He was regarded as one of the country’s most promising up and coming referees and was highly respected by his peers.
The FIFA President wrote: “Football is a mirror of society and sadly, the same ills that afflict society, in this case violence, also manifest themselves in our game. Nevertheless, I remain convinced that football is a force for good and we must continue use its positive example to educate people against these wrongs.
“On behalf of the members of the international football community, I should be grateful if you could extend our deepest condolences to Mr Andoh’s family, friends and loved ones.â€
